It used to be legal

During the World Wars, marijuana or cannabis was legal. A multitude of product were made using cannabis, which is the plant that makes marijuana, and then during the war it was suddenly made illegal because or propaganda saying that marijuana was causing the soldiers severe problems. Now a days, through scientific research we know that this was a lie because marijuana does not cause severe problems, just makes you feel good and makes you hungry. Before and during the World Wars, over 50,000 products were made using cannabis. Some of these products are paper, oil for lamps, lubricants, rope, cloths, and a number of other products.

If we look at our current world we are running our of natural resources, so I ask the question if so many different products we use daily can be made through a plant that is made in abundance, why are we wasting our precious resources on products we could have been making with a renewable resource. If the government is going to wait till we are out of resources to remember that we can use cannabis as a alternative, then they are making a big mistake. We could be using these resources on new and better products and not products anything can be used to make them.

How it helps the government

Besides the increase in money that are flowing into the government, it would also decrease crime in our country since the drug that is causing a lot of the crime is now legal. Therefore the government wouldn't have to focus any of their time on this subject.

By legalizing marijuana the government could generate a lot of money that could help our county's economy. We are currently in a deficit of over one trillion dollars, and if the government was smart it would tax anything that could generate money to help this increasing problem. This would generate a lot of money for the government because about 100 million people in the United States smoke marijuana. That is about a third of the population of the United States. By taxing a substance that so many people use, the government could receive billions of dollars a year, and slowly decrease our deficit. Each year the government would save 14 billion dollars from enforcing the prohibition laws of marijuana, and would take in billions of dollars from the sale and taxation of marijuana.

The Munchies

In our society there are people that eat to little amounts of food. It would be smart if parent petitioned for marijuana to be legal so they could make their kids that eat to little to eat more. The munchies could help those people that are anorexic. Probably will not cure this disease but might help them. In retrospect compared to the consequences of drinking a lot, are the munchies really that bad of a side effect. Personally I do not believe so.

The munchies is a side effect of smoking marijuana. This effect does exactly as it is named, it makes you hungry. Now if making someone hungry is so bad, then anything that smells good that makes you want to eat, or looks good should be against the law. Is making someone hungry that bad a thing, I do not believe it is, if anything its a good thing since food tastes good.

College

If something like drinking, which can lead to death, is only going to bring probation or a warning, then a drug like marijuana should be punished with the same or less severity. College's and the government need to get their perspective in order and start focusing on more critical matters then punishing people for using marijuana, while people are murdering or stealing.

College is a time to experiment, and marijuana is included in this. College's are taking smoking marijuana to the extreme, by threatening expulsion. While drinking underage will bring upon light punishment like a warning or probation. This is not fair since college's are only doing this because marijuana is illegal while drinking is not. College being described as a time of freedom and experimentation is a hoax, if the college system and the government are ruining kids lives over a drug that has really no life or death effects on you. College's could do so much better then focusing a lot of their time on matters like these.

Movie Buisness

In many movies marijruana is shown, smoked or selling the drug of marijuana. Movies in general that include drugs, give people the idea to try them. Especially in the "Harold and Kumar" movies. These movies show the marijuana is not a bad drug is fun to try. But even after all of these movies promote the use of marijuana, the drug is still illegal.

In our society the movie industry gives our generation ideas on how to act, how what to do, or the consequences that might happen. But in the movies marijuana is always a joke or something that is not that bad. If movies are so im,portant to our society then how can the use of marijuana still be illegal if it is used in such a manor. By making smoking marijuana laughable and not giving the poeple the impression that it is a bad drug, it will give drive to the legalization of this drug.

The Music Business

Many of the rappers of the music business are involved with smoking marijuana. They are very open with this, and even make songs about smoking joints. Some rappers that smoke weed are Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa. These are only a few of the famous rappers that smoke weed in our society today. When you see these influential people in our music society, you start thinking that smoking weed can't be that bad.

When you look at the songs by Wiz Khalifa, a majority of them are about rolling joints, smoking weed,and it is the same for Snoop Dogg. All of these songs out there give kids of the younger messages that things that are looked upon our society are okay. Because this message the generation that is coming up right now, might know not understand why something is legal or illegal. So before these messages get out of control we should legalize marijuana so the right messages can be brought to the children, instead of having multiple messages that will make them confused.

The Union: Business Behind Getting High

According to this film the drug dealers don't want it to be legalized. This reason is because the government would then tax marijuana and this will take away the drug dealers profit from the selling of marijuana. These drug dealers make a lot of money with very little effort. If the government makes it legal and taxes marijuana, these dealers would lose a lot of money. The dealers of this illegal business of marijuana are making more money being illegal than if it was legal. The government would be smart if they made marijuana legal, it might be able to bring in enough revenue to decrease our national debt.

The Union, is a documentary that interviews presidents, dealers of marijuana, influential people and many scientist. If you watch this film, you discover many interesting facts about marijuana that you may have not known before. One thing that i found out is that, many presidents that have been in office, like George W. Bush have smoked weed, and yet they still have spoken against it! If someone like a previous president of the United States has smoked weed then why is it still illegal, this baffles me.

By watching this documentary i have discovered something very interesting that is the smoking marijuana is worse then drinking alcohol or smoking cigarette's. This is a lie that the government told the whole country. We all have been told that 1 joint is equal to 10 cigarette's, but in realiety smoking a joint is better for you then smoking a cigarette. Smoking cigarette's will eventually lead to lung cancer, but if you smoke a joint the chance of lung cancer is slim to none unless you smoke both. Drinking and driving is bad, this is true. If you drink and drive you have a high chance of getting in a car crash, but if you smoke and drive the chance of very slim that you are going to get into a crash.

I have learned a tremendous amount the dealings of marijuana in our community by watching this movie, i urge everyone interested in legalizing marijuana to watch the movie. By watching the movie you will be able to understand why it should be legal and other substances in our country should not be.

Decrease the People in Jail

Everyone knows now a days that the jails are over populated with criminals. What a lot of people don't know is that a lot of those criminals are in there for smoking, selling or having possessiong of marijuana. By using logic you can figure out that these "criminals" will meet actual criminals and might get involved with real crimes like robbery or murder. If the government makes marijuana legal, the jails will not be over crowded. Also it might stop these criminals that sell marijuana from getting involved in anything worse then that.
The time that you can go to jail for varies in each state, you will receive a fine no matter what and depending on the amount of weed you have you could go to jail for a year. That year away from school and your family would destroy a lot of people at a young age. It is very difficult to come back and get a good job with having gone to jail for a year no matter what the circumstance. Now if marijuana is legalized more people in the United States would have the opportunity to get better jobs then flipping burgers at Mcdonald's or working the drive through at KFC.

I believe if the United States government legalizes marijuana it will help all of America with jobs and will make the people that work at jails have a easier job. This is because the jails will have less people, therefore will be easier to handle. The government needs to priorterize what they believe. With all of the United States and the world trying marijuana, why is it still illegal here. We are the country of freedom, therefore if everyone is already using their freedom to use it even with the penalty of going to jail, it would be better to be made legal than send young men to jail.

The Gateway Drug True or False

Marijuana is referred to as the gateway drug. That is true because it is illegal and it is the easiest drug to get your hand on. You don't need an id all you need to have is a friend, and then your bound to have the possibility of buying and using marijuana. The fact that marijuana is illegal makes it appealing for kids to try it. It might be a way to rebel against society or to rebel against their parents by doing something wrong. Either way it is an attempt by the kids that use marijuana to gain attention and rebel.

The reason marijuana is a gateway drug isn't because of the affects of it, it is because of the contact you have with the dealer. The dealer will pressure the buyer to try this or we received an interesting shipment today. This pressure by the dealer is the reason that weed is a gateway drug. If weed was legal and you put a age limit on it, marijuana wouldn't be a gateway drug anymore. It would be like alcohol, where underage kids try to get their hands on it, but this time those kids won't start messing around with other drugs.

If the Government makes marijuana legal, that would greatly decrease the ammount of drug addicts in the United States. If that happens then there would be a decrease in the homeless because those drug addicts wouldn't spend all there money on hard drugs that create a strong addiction. I am not saying that it is a definate that legalizing marijuana will stop the use of other drugs, I am saying that it will decrease a lot. If the homeless decrease our society might be able to come together and be stronger then before.

I believe that Marijuana should be legalized, because in today's world a majority of people smoke it already. There is no point for something to be illegal that everyone can already obtain and use. For that reason marijuana should be legal. Since everyone does is and it is illegal, therefore the jails have started to become over populated because of all the arrests due to use or possession of marijuana. Besides not being lethal to you, marijuana helps dull the pain for those who have terminal illness, so besides just smoking it for no reason, it has medical capabilities. If you think about it, the government could benefit from legalizing weed by taxing it, then there would be a increase of money in the government.
